fall

September 13th, 2007

so, here it is already September. It has been cold.. we’re talking in the 40’s at night! I hope that’s not a sign of things to come, even though it is welcome after a blazingly hot august!
Today i finished up my black and red quilt. since the picture below, i’ve added a thin border of white blocks around all the edges, 2 more borders on the top, and 2 more on the bottom (it wasn’t quite long enough) and a plain border after those in a deep red.

well.. as the hubby says, it’s not done.. just the top is done. Now I have to figure out when i can take it out to my moms to quilt it on her super big quilting machine. i will make sure to post pics when it’s quilted and stuff..
fall is usually the time i start working on my crafts again, since i don’t have outdoor gardening to take up most of my time. i had a great crop of tomatoes this year. next year i am planning on growing all heirloom tomatoes. i’m planning on buying some seeds online and start them inside. i’ve even asked for a grow light kit

about 2 weeks ago adam and i went to the house on the rock in wisconsin. talk about a weird place! we had a bunch of fun! if you would like to see the picturesclick here.

Forum

August 20th, 2007

So, i’ve been thinking for the last bit, to start a forum to replace another forum that i no longer had felt comfortable writing on, but i missed my friends. SO… the it’s not a diet forum is up and running as of this morning.  It is meant to be a community where people can discuss healthy lifestyles and how to achieve them.  also i want it to be a place where people can talk and chat and have a great time.  :)

i can’t wait to see everyone there!  :)

A seemingly bad weekend

August 19th, 2007

Ok, everything I am going to write about right now is going to sound bad, but I actually don’t feel that badly about it at all. Weird.

So Saturday, Adam decided that we should start playing world of warcraft again. I was very very excited, because i’ve been wanting to start playing again. So we get our computers all patched up and ready to go. We had been playing for a while and I kept having to log out and turn things off randomly on my computer because the performance was crap. SO… long story short, i have switched (with mostly the hubby doing the work) to a different laptop, one that adam wasn’t using, but one that is better than the other one i was using.  I’ve spent the day, on and off, making things back to normal.  This computer is so much faster, it’s great!  :)   it’s almost the exact same laptop that i had been using only newer.  So that was the “bad” saturday, not really bad since i upgraded computers, just annoying.

Sunday morning 3:00 a.m.  Adam had gotten up to shut the windows from a bad storm with it raining in.  About 10 seconds after he laid back down, it felt like the house was exploding.  Bright light, loud boom enough to hurt my ear drums, yup.. that’s right, our house got hit by lightening.  We both stayed awake long enough to make sure the house wasn’t burning down and then fell asleep.  When i woke up the first thing i noticed was the cable box in the bedroom wasn’t working.  we just replaced the darn thing about 2 weeks ago.  Then i left the bedroom and walked past adam’s office and there was a huge buzzing coming from in there.  Turns out his speakers got fried.  As far as we know, we lost the cable box, the speakers, both vonage boxes (yup.. that’s right, no home phone, and no office phone.  thank god for call forwarding)  and my super groovy all in one wonder printer copier fax machine.  gar!  enough to have to replace that we’ll take a little hit but not enough for an insurance claim.  grr.. oh well.. it could have been much worse.

ok.. that’s enough for today.  like i said.. it seems like it would be a crappy weekend, but i don’t feel that badly.

Late Summer

August 16th, 2007

i know.. i know.. i haven’t posted in my blog for a very long time.  it seems that i tend to go in waves with this thing. i really want to try and start posting every day, my ramblings, what’s going on in my life (whoopty doo i’m sure) and general stuff.

so, it’s august.  i hate late summer early fall.  the ragweed is now officially in bloom.  i am very very allergic to ragweed pollen, and have been since i was almost a year old (the first year i was around in a fall for anyone to know)  for the first couple of weeks, while i’m getting used to the pollen in the air, and my medicine (claritin, while nice, doesn’t work as well for me as an old fashioned antihistamine)  i’m pretty much a zombie.  not much to do but lay on the couch, moan about my misery, and, apparently, blog!

i’m currently reading the last wheel of time book.  i know it’s been out for about a year, but i just had a hard time getting into the first 100 pages (as usual with robert jordan books) but i’m about 1/2 way done, and i must say it is now engrossing.. :)

i am collecting red, green, and neutral fabrics for a quilt.  i know anyone who’s reading this must assume that i’m going to make a christmas quilt from those color choices, but you’d be wrong!  i’m making a watermelon quilt!  i saw it in a local quilt shop last week and fell in love with it.  it looked simple.  i figured i could work on it over the winter and have a groovy summer quilt for picnics next year.  w00t.

i am going to start decorating my living room and dining room (it’s one largish room separated with an archway thingy). i’ve got the dining room set picked out, the piano is moving to the living room, the couch in the living room is getting tossed this weekend, i’ve got chairs picked out (fabric and all) for the living room, which i’m going to do the 2 chairs and a coffee table.  i can’t put too much more in there cuz the piano is biggish.  i’m excited.  i am thinking of painting the walls the color of weak tea, and the arch will most likely be painted a charcoal color, the color choices would work really well with the living room and dining room stuff that i’ve picked out.  the dining room furniture is mostly black, with cherry wood accents, the living room furniture is a cream background, with circles of black, charcoal, and orange and rust (it is so hard to describe.. but it is pretty)  :)   anyway, when it’s done (in a long while, have to buy the stuff in shifts) i’ll be sure to post pictures.. :)

ok, i’ve rambled enough for now.  but i’ll be back, sooner or later!  :)

Happy Monday!

November 27th, 2006

Another busy week ahead of me! Today i’m going with adam to Chicago and the data center there. Then we’re going to China Town and then meeting with someone for his work. Tomorrow I’m shopping with a friend for the place i used to do volunteer work for (i got roped into it.. heh) and then the next day I am going christmas shopping with my mom. And thursday and friday I will be putting up my christmas tree. I ran out of time to do it this weekend.

We ordered Vonage yesterday. We will be saving probably $170 a month in phone charges. We had been paying around $200 a month in just having the 2 phone lines and long distance charges. Vonage is $25 a month with unlimited long distance a month. Adam’s business line will be taken care of by his business so our personal line will be cheap! I’ll have to blog about it when it’s all hooked up but it feels good to not make the big telecoms more rich off of us! :)

I had to get a new cell phone this weekend.  I got the pink razr and we switched to verizon (better coverage in this area than tmobile) so yes, I know own a barbie phone… but i LOVE it!  I just got the tubular bells ringtone so whenever anyone calls I will be excorsist girl! heh.. the irony of that song coming from a pink barbie phone.  i LOVE it.

What happens in Vegas

November 21st, 2006

Doesn’t have to stay in vegas.  :)

We had so much fun!  We got back late last night.. or actually early this morning.  Our plane was over 2 hours late arriving at Vegas so we took off over 2 1/2 hours late.  We walked in our door at 3 am.  and had to wake up early enough to get the dogs because we told them we’d pick them up in the morning.  So, i’m exhausted!

Vegas was fun.  Got so much exercise it’s not even funny!  walked the strip from one end to the other several times each day and saw a couple shows.  Penn and Teller was awesome!  Saw a Cirque de Solie show too which was very good!  :)

I unfortunatly didn’t have time to take any pictures.  I just was having too much fun!  :)

Weekends

November 13th, 2006

This one was a good one.  :)   We went to see “Into the woods” at a theater in the round in Lincolnshire (Illinois).  It was really good.  Only took me till yesterday afternoon to get the music out of my head!  :)

Had Xbox issues this weekend.  Adam worked on it and tried many different things to get it to work and he finally called Microsoft to find out if there was anything else to try and their response was to say that it was broken and needs to be either repaired or exchanged but their warranty on it had expired.  We bought it at Sams Club back in April (so no suprise that the warranty had expired eh?) with the extended warranty.  Took the whole shebang back to Sams yesterday and they exchanged it for a new one no problem.  They even transfered the warranty from the old one to the new one!   I swear that was the most hassle free return/exchange i’ve ever done anywhere!  :)   So now i can keep playing oblivion and be a happy camper!

This week will be a busy one (except today so i’m being a bum).  We leave for Vegas friday morning so I need to get some stuff ready for that.  I can’t wait to go!  We haven’t had a real get away for a while.  The last one was a family trip with my parents and my uncle and his wife this summer.  Adam and I are looking forward to a vacation that is just us!

Balance is thrust upon me

November 11th, 2006

In my last post I was lamenting that I was beginning to become obsessed with the game Oblivion for the xbox 360.  It is a great game and I love playing it.  Alas, my xbox 360 is having issues right now.  Every 5 minutes of game play or so the darned thing locks up and has to be shut down.  I really am hoping that the console isn’t completely broken because that would so totally suck!

Today I feel lost because my plan for this morning was to get some playing in while Adam sleeps in (he worked late last night again).  But not all is lost, Cinemax is playing the star wars marathon today so I am watching that.

Finding balance

November 10th, 2006

If anyone knows how, please tell me.  I’ve been so busy this week I haven’t had time to do anything on my list of things i wanted to get done this week.  Next week I leave for Vegas on Thursday, so that week’s a wash, then the next week is thanksgiving, my birthday and my anniversary!  After that it’s getting ready for christmas!  I long for January 2nd!  Just kidding.  I love the holidays!  :)

Oh, and the game Oblivion is the most addicting game i’ve played since the original final fantasy i played in college!  :)

This week’s plans

November 6th, 2006

Today I will layer my underground railroad quilt and get it ready to start quilting on it.  I don’t have the stencils that I wanted to get last week, because the stores we went to didn’t have the kinds I wanted.  I will be going to a quilt shop tomorrow that has a wall FULL of stencils. And not just a wall of stencils, but on this wall there are those flip things that have the stencils on them so it’s more like 2 or 3 walls full of stencils, but they are condenced.  I can’t wait.  It’s one of my favorite shops, but it’s about a 40 minute drive from here so I don’t go all that often.

My goal for this week, craft wise, is to complete 2 more books on my library cross stitch picture (there are 25 books) and to start quilting my quilt.  I’d like to get 2 blocks done on the quilt but I plan on doing quite extensive hand quilting so I would be happy getting just 1 done.  There are only 16 blocks in the whole thing so if i could get 2 a week done that would be awesome, but if not who cares.. i’ve been working on this thing for over a year now (not straight.. i get too distracted all the time).

I have decided too that I need to take breaks more often from the everyday hub bub of life.  I am going to start playing “oblivion” again (for the xbox360).  It’s a great role playing game that I loved to play a while back but I gave it up because i’m busy.  Adam was playing it yesterday and I played for a while yesterday and I must say that I miss playing video games (console ones that is).  I just need to find a better balance.  When I get into a game I have a tendancy to go a bit overboard and play for hours and hours.

I also decided that my favorite authors must all be on vacation or something.  I haven’t seen a new book come out in a long time that has made me want to drop everything and start reading.  I miss curling up with a good book.  Hopefully at christmas time there will be some good new releases that I can get from friends and family as gifts (wink wink nudge nudge) hehe.. :)
